Looking for some sort of float device that will allow the air out of my 650ltr tank but will stop the water. I don't want to use a ballcock as the ball will take up too much room and the valve will restrict the flow of water in.
At the moment I have my pump on a timer and just unscrew the lid, put my hose into the tank which is fine if I don't get the time wrong. It also means having to stay close to the tank to top it up or otherwise it will overflow which I don't want to do in the winter.

I don't understand what you want? Do you want to stop your tank from overflowing, or do you want to fill the tank, and makes sure the tank doesn't get sucked vacuum? (ie. let the air out?) cuz that's easy with a vented lid.

i would have a overflow valve and that would let the air out and when the tank is full it will just let the water run out

How about an elbow in and 1 out for air to escape and then have a magnetic float switch connected to an isolator to cut the water off when its full.
Simon.

What kind of float switch can you put in a flat tank that won't stop it filling too soon? Most I've seen stop the water when its still 3 or 4" from the lid?

Thanks all , I saw this device which had a ball inside a kind of cage. The ball rises with the water and blocks the vent , trouble is I don't know where I saw it or where to get it. Any Ideas?
