Title: Floor waxing
Post by: Nathanael Jones on May 28, 2008, 04:18:45 pm
Over the last few years I've done a fair bit of floor waxing/polishing & strip & seal jobs in local schools over the summer holidays.
It's great work for the wet days,... there's not much of a deadline (The schools in Ireland have up to 12 weeks off in the summer!), and the pay isn't bad either.

The only problem is that it's really hard on my back when I'm putting down the polish. I'm using a 16oz Kentucky mop and putting down up to 6 coats on the area's that get a lot of wear.

The school holidays are fast approaching again, so I'm wondering:
Is there any method of application that is less physically demanding? I was wondering if flat mops can be used to apply polish? Or is there any machine that does the job?

I have just bought a triangular shaped applicator and lambswool pads. The pads are about £2 each. Although you are still using the same mopping action you get away with a lot less strokes because if the solidness of the pad. ie. the mop strands dont open up and leave patches and figure 8's.

Should have bought one years ago.

hi nathan,

kevs right thats a much better way to apply it but on the larger areas like big assembly halls,  try the big foot,

its a nicesly wighted applicator, 18inch or 24inch,  and you buy sleves to slide on the end,

the big foot costs bout £40 ish,  then the sleeves £9.00 each,    you might be able to use a sleve about 5 times if put in airless blg bag,

try granwax,     or     havwoods

thanx jonny
