Post by: paul33 on May 19, 2004, 01:10:26 am
Having awful problems with leaving smears when the weather is hot, it seems that the windows dry out and i leave smears....Doing my head in!!, is it possibly that im using the wrong solution in the good old fairy or is it something that whatever product i use this will still happen,Is it just me or just the weather?? cheers

how are you cleaning the windows?? if you are using a wet and dry cloth make the dry a bit damp, I use microfiber cloths which are great   :)  but difficult to use if compleatly dry. If you are using an applicator and squeegee and you normally wet 2 or 3 windows, in the sun you will have to do them one at a time  :(

No trouble with GG4 in sunny Spain. Same problem every day.

I have never used GG4;

but if you are using the good old fairy liquid, make sure you have not put too much of the stuff in your water, if your fingers feel slimy after you have put your hand in the bucket then you are using too much.

make sure your squeegee rubber is in good nick, when the edges start to round off they become less effective.

Make sure your applicator sleeve is cleaned out well.

And as Nick said, only wet a pane or two at a time, and make sure you squeegee each pane of cleanly without having to try and go back and pick up a 'kick' or missed bit.

Fairy is fine, you shouldn't have any probs really.

Or of course you can always try out the GG4 and see how you get on with that.

Good luck!

keep your applicator more wet in direct sunshine this gives you more time to squegee off also pay more attention to the edges as they seem to dry quicker in the summer and also smears are more noticeable from the inside in direct sunshine

I've been on GG3 for a while now, but not yet in really good weather. When I used to use the green F***y L****d stuff in hot temperatures (that sometimes happens up here, you know) I used to "quarter" big shop fronts - instead of soaping up the whole plate. Just soap and blade the top left corner, then top right, bottom right and bottom left.

You could try Sorbo Squeegee Glide, it slows evaporation and stops the window drying too quickly. It helps glide too. It`s quite expensive but it will pay for itself if it makes you quicker as you`re not doing windows twice or spending longer soaping up.
  I couldn`t use gg4 when it was very hot and found washing up liquid better and mopping up isn`t too much of a pain as most of it dries up anyway.
   I do the same as Davie as well, on bigger windows do it in sections-half or quarter or more if it helps.
   I got another tip from Denzle- use a small squirty bottle ( I use an old Fairy bottle), fill it with your solution, stick it in one of your pockets/pouches and you can freshen up your applicator whenever you need. It`s helpful when your applicator is drying out and you can`t get to your bucket and less messy than storing water in the bucket on a belt.
