To be fair you live in a very rural area. Most of us in Cities are at a handicap straight away. I'm over 60, full no claims etc and mine is over £600.
What i used to do many years ago was Insure my van from my mates address in Wales, it was something like a third of the price but they closed that loophole now.
-
My location will be the main reason. I don't even lock my van at home, there's virtually zero crime where I live. Other than that, I'm 52 and the van is a 2011 Fiat Scudo worth about 3.5k.

I still wouldn't leave my van unlocked!
I don't even leave a window open at home when I go out anywhere (even if I'm just nipping to my local corner shop 2 mins away.)
Never leave bags or anything on show if your car/van either!

I don’t purposely leave my van unlocked overnight but I have done many times without issue. That’s the benefit of living in a nice suburban area amongst nice people.

Once you get to 70, they treat you as a greater risk driving a van, even if you have never had an accident in all your driving history.

I live on the edge of a coucil estate but i never worry about crime. My logic is all the estate dossers will go to better areas to thieve. No one has owt worth nicking round here ;)

Over here the issue isn’t so much your van being nicked, it’s don’t leave anything in it that could be smelt by a bear as a food source. Even empty coffee take-outs. I got told off a couple of times by Laura for that, not knowing it’ll encourage their hunting habits.
This is what a bear will do once it’s inside your vehicle.

Give it a couple of rounds from the 300 win mag that will fix it 😂
-
You’d get lynched for that.
Disposing of anything here food-wise is a steep learning curve. All food waste has to be frozen and stay in the freezer until the morning of collection otherwise decomposing food garbage in a dustbin just encourages the wildlife.

Obviously a Panda car.

And that's why usually vehicle insurance is cheaper in poorer areas.

Brother is a builder....bought his own council house on a fairly rough estate for a bargain and did it up.......never had his van broken into....never empties it and it's parked roadside.....and that's in about 30 years.....they don't rob from their own.

Up here they will steal the sugar out of your tea. A few months ago a young guy asked me if I could lend him my wheelbarrow. I quickly realised what he was up to and followed him when he left empty handed. He jumped into a tipper, did a u turn and not seem them since. Lucky I was wise what he was up to. When I worked on a building site the boss gave me the best piece of advice, trust no one on this site. He was right, even the sand went missing.
There is bad people everywhere I'm afraid but I used to be a prison officer and heard all the stories.
