Title: How your price rises going?
Post by: dazmond on April 01, 2023, 11:21:42 am
Nearly finished mine, most a quid or 2,some a fiver...should bring in an extra £2k+ per year...

No cancellations as of yet!🙂

As some other window cleaners have said customers are expecting it!👍

Last couple of days just went out - across the board rises are an average of 15%
knocked some uppers only on the head and adjusted the 4 customers who regularly ask for the front only rather than a full clean

so far out of 1200 odd we have lost 6

happy with the result so far

Trouble is with extra price rises( necessary though)
Could it be some are now into different tax brackets. Possibly even close to vat threshold?

Done about 1000-1200 customers so far and lost less than 10.

All were £2 or £3

The £5+ didn’t bat an eye lid. Had an £8 rise question it and just explained it’s been underpriced for a few years.

I agree its the tiddlers that get more upset than the big ones - had one go up over 30% and rang me up to say thanks for keeping the price reasonable  :o (damn perhaps it should have been 50% increase  ;D)

Had one customer query it but he queries every price.  I'd put him up by a fiver and he thought I was just being greedy, but
I sent him a link to the Bank of Inflation calculator, and he could see it was appropriate.

Had one block of flats ask to go quarterly instead of bi-monthly.
Had a few say, 'that's ok been expecting you would need to.' so all good.

Lost a £15 job(going up to £17)....8 weekly too....if they ask me back(I clean all the other houses around it)it'll be £20 with a first clean price of £30 if it's in a year or so.... ;D

It always seems to be the ones that are getting a good deal that sack you off when you put up prices!

Even though i can afford to lose plenty i still find the process nerve racking, just starting to put all of mine up now that havent had a price rise for 2 years. So far lost 4 mainly new ones that ive only cleaned once haha

I feel like im pushing it now with price rises its making me cringe pressing the button

No way would I put a customers prices up after one clean...its just not something I would ever do.id clean them for at least 2 or 3 years before a rise.

Not something I'd ever considered before daz but took on about 100 plus new ones since new year and I need to cull some otherwise I'm going to be totally swamped soon.

Trying to sell work but no takers as of yet. A price rise and good dumping is all I can do.

Why didn’t you price the new ones at a higher price to begin with? If you are stacked with work price them high and if you don’t get them it’s no biggie.

I was forgetting you briefly had an employee, so you would have been trying to build more work.

Not too bad with the increases....more wanting to lengthen frequency...I had a monthly want to go 3 monthly today🙄...and numerous others..but you can’t take £15 monthly and put it to £20 x2 monthly...they would surely go elsewhere 🤔

If its £15 monthly and they want it bi monthly then I price it at £18, never had a problem.
If your good they will stay

I added 25%  if she wanted to go every other time to one particular customer that thought she could dictate the frequency lol,she soon said ok still join me in every time.
That’s the only time I’ve increased prices over the last year there’s no need imo just another couple of jobs a week cover the increases we’ve seen, multiple vans and half a dozen staff it’s a different ball game but certainly not for people that are sole traders.

There in lies your problem , we aim for customer 35 years old upwards and don’t get theses issues , we only offer 4-8 weekly on domestic nothing else if one’s hesitant when quoting we don’t take them on simple as that , it’s vary rare that we get a cancellation or any other issues I think at the quoting stage you need ti set your stall out with what you will provide for the customers and what you expect from them ,

I think you’re getting mixed up Nigel, sole traders can have staff, do you mean a one man band?
Personally I think it makes a lot more sense to put  prices up to cover the increased cost of living rather than doing more work. I don’t think telling teachers, nurses, train drivers etc etc to do an extra hour or two per week to cover the cost of living would go down too well😂
