Get a WFP. its so easy. Failing that a Garden spray bottle and some scrim.
Before I went WFP I wouldn't touch leaded glass which excluded me from a lot of work. Now I have WFP I find that more people with leaded glass are looking for a WC than you would expect.
This leads me to think that other WCs give them a miss as well.

I find them a doddle.
Get a microfibre cloth and spray and buff.

I can do them the same or quicker than squeegee panes.

Kind of defeats the object of wfp.... ;D

You wouldn't be noticeably quicker than me on leaded, as I said, I do them faster than squeegee panes, and I'm bloody fast with the old rubber wand.

Georgians, yes I'll give you that one, but then I don't do georgians anyway.
Only one or two that I've known for years.
I don't pick up anything not suited to me.

I'll be the one at home having a lager(not a larger ;D), while you're faffing about filling water and doing all those other tasks.... ;)

No chance.  WFP is far faster on leaded windows.  No chance.

You've obviously never used microfibre and a good spray then Tosh.

I'm literally 2 to 3 times faster now.

Funny then that you do some squeegee work because it's quicker, yet I can do leaded faster than squeegee most of the time.
Work it out for yourself.

You lot (not you personally Tosh) are so slow by hand.
No wonder you need wfp. ;D

Squeaks v wfp.

Gotta give you 10/10 for effort squeaks.  You defend your corner admirably.

Dont you ever feel bullied?

squeek I'll promise you I'm faster than you on downstairs stuff with the squeegee any day - I'm no terry burrows but I'm still fast, faster than you, and with wfp I'm 2x as quick again - don't be silly squeeky, you'll be a wfp'er someday!!

Oh, I've had a good chuckle over all this wfp waving last night. ;D
You promise you're faster. How do you work that one out if you don't know how quick I am?

If you're 2x as quick with wfp, then you're a lot slower than me!
Never been beaten by one on a house next to me. ;)

...and no I won't be one someday.
Why do I need it, and it's hassle?

I agree with Squeaks on the method for doing them trad, it is quick and it does a good job.
Nonetheless you have to beware of going to fast, on leaded in particular, faint smears can be left behind that will show up in direct sunlight.

The average window with WFP will take somewhere around 30/40 seconds to do, it is very unlikely you can trad clean a window that has 3 standard size casement style leaded panes.
And I would be more than happy to stopwatch someone such as Squeaks doing them trad, perhaps Roger should stopwatch himself...he might be surprised, I would doubt he would do a window such as I have just described in under 40 seconds...it might feel really quick, but it will be longer than that.
Plus of course the quality of the clean has to count too.
The 30/40 seconds I've allowed for WFP is also a very generous timescale, and anyone using WFP would clean such a window in that time with ease.
And on upstairs windows trad would be slower again due to climbing and moving the ladder if nothing else.

another point to consider if spraying and buffing is even faster than using a squeegee on a similar non leaded window...why bother using a squeegee at all?

The answer is easy of course, the squeegee is faster and does a better job, were you to use this method on normal windows you would get smears all over the place.
but failing WFP, a proprietary brand of window cleanig spray (Tesco's own brand is I think the best, and cheapest to) and a microfibre cloth is the next best way of dealing with leaded windows.

I do a small leaded windowed hotel; approximately 30 rooms, conference room and reception area; it's 80% leaded windows.

There's no chance you can do large-leaded windows quicker by hand than you can with WFP.

This job used to take two of us; outside only; two hours.  Now, by myself using a WFP, I've got it down to around 1hr 20 minutes.

And if you claim to do this sort of work faster by hand-bashing than using a WFP, you must be well muscled and fit, probably by doing some one-handed work-outs to a Cindy Crawford keep-fit video.

Chaps, read between the lines.
