Title: anybody else melted n sacked the day off?
Post by: nathankaye on May 25, 2017, 05:15:20 pm
As title.
Ive picked the worse colour uniform for workingbin this heat, black!
So by dinner i was melting and so called it a day.
Were fortunate my mrs doesnt work secular and is home schooling our children.
So finished and went home to spend time with family which ended in a massive fun water fight.
I have 2 days left of work and four days or so to do it in. So i can easily catch up ☺

Anybody else sacked the day off?

Over here we get little enough of this good weather, so have to make it count when we do get it.

I don't get sunburnt, so no sun cream for me. Great to be able to look as if I have been to the equator but earning lolly while topping up the tan!

Haha, thinking about it i have to chuckle. I worked all last week in the rain as i usually do. But then i bunk off on a hot sunny day 😂😂

However, ive not jad much family time in last couple of weeks and the weather is supposedly turning again at the weekend. So yep, sack work for half a day for something more important.

It's not the heat that's the problem it's the lack of time to acclimatize. Three weeks ago we had snow in Devon !

I had two phone calls from your area today saying they need a reliable window cleaner as there current one was supposed to turn up today but didint??

Nah lm only messin lm miles away form you no doubt but you never know...........

Work days are for work and family time etc comes after work, lets not get the two mixed up mr kaye. Dont leave yourself open the possibilty of losing a good customer or two.

I have pulled these stunts in the past with the weather man telling me its going to be glorious tomorow and then the heavens have opened next day leaving me up the creak.

The Stanford marshmallow experiment[1] was a series of studies on delayed gratification in the late 1960s and early 1970s led by psychologist Walter Mischel, then a professor at Stanford University. In these studies, a child was offered a choice between one small reward provided immediately or two small rewards (i.e., a larger later reward) if they waited for a short period, approximately 15 minutes, during which the tester left the room and then returned. (The reward was sometimes a marshmallow, but often a cookie or a pretzel.) In follow-up studies, the researchers found that children who were able to wait longer for the preferred rewards tended to have better life outcomes, as measured by SAT scores,[2] educational attainment,[3] body mass index (BMI),[4] and other life measures.[5]

Nathan, do you find yourself unable to wait for a cookie?

Haha, i post about cutting my work load in half 1, because i was rather hot wearing my black heavy trousers n black polo top and 2, going home and having a water fight with my kids was more appealing and 3, because i can as i have just less than 2 days of work to do b4 end of month.

Isnt this what the beauty of being self employed is. Oh and ive been in this game long enough to enjoy these perks as well. My customers expect me on a four week rotation, not a set day unless i have specifically requested gates to be unlocked etc and obviously these would get done on those days regardless.
But my finances dont require me to bust a gut and fear of falling behind if i have half a day off or heavens forbid i decide to take a full day off!! 😂😂

Yes work is work n family time is after n all that. But my kids are home taught (not twagging school on excuse of being home taught. Also doing very well. So if this wknd the weather is going to be pants, then i have the luxury of doing family outside activities on a glorious day like today instead.
Yep, i do like my life and the occasional cookies lol 😉😉

yes i admit it, i used to! but now lm a bit older (38) i have self DISCIPLINE.

I prefer to have my time off when lve got it all done then l don't have work on my mind.

I know what you mean about the work clothes situ, feels like bungee cords around your leg and yesterday l had the exact same experience as you. So l went home and put my shorts on and got right back to it.

also had a burst pipe so replaced that at the same time, was a bit late home but still had time to jump around on the trampoline with the kids. Wasnt as much fun as a water fight though.

Change of weather always seems to bring about bursts and leaks for me, contraction and expansion! fittings dont like it.

its all about being organised and disciplined.plenty of cold drinks and fruit in a freeze box in hot weather.shorts, sunglasses, baseball cap, suncream.take a few more 5 min breaks in the shade in the afternoon if its really hot.

im loving having air con in my van in this weather.got my air con fixed in the golf too just in time for summer. :)

dont buy lighter polo shirts though for hot days.i bought some white ones a few years ago and they get dirty real quick and dont come clean in the wash.waste of money.stick to the darker clothing. ;)

Ok, I'm guilty as well, finished early and was on the golf course at the back of 2 today. The joys of being self employed.

I've never been a lover of heat. Sun, yes. Heat, no.

Instead of stopping for lunch when it's hot I often start work earlier, skip lunch and finish earlier. When I do this I'm done by 2pm. Not done it yet, though it was tempting this week.
However, I find wfp in the heat much more bearable than ladder work in the heat. Probably due to the overspray coming off the upper ledges and keeping me cool.

If you have the flexibility to take the afternoon off to spend time with family why not.

What time is the earliest people feel comfortable starting? If it's gonna be so hot tomorrow I want to start early & get finished

How anyone can even consider sacking the day off in peak earning time is beyond me.

This is the weather where all those extra jobs cone along, I just had surge in new customers since the weather improved.

I would imagine, perhaps like me, ones are happy with the income from their main source of work. They have plenty of well established work and have well organised work which enables them or me to sack half a day off and not be worried about doing so.
But each to their own i suppose, as i can see your point quite well as well.

I still worked,  but I earn same in winter and summer I won't work longer hours for more money can't see point  just there's more light, I know some do

I'm happy with my income stays fairly constant

Doing people's conservatories just because sun has come out is a royal nightmare in this heat, just cannot be bothered

I'm exactly the same, whats the point in being your own boss if you cant make work suit round your own lifestyle. if i still did them i would be saving the conservatories for rainy days.

Finished working yesterday at 4pm. Did some paperwork this morning and made a few phone calls. Had a kip on the sofa (woke around 4am this morning) and then decided to go and clean a friends house just down the road at about 4.30pm. Bloody hell it was hot. If you've got the flexibility to enjoy the time off with family/friends then go for it. Like has been said, it's one of the beauties of being self employed. Life is too short for work, work, work!
