Title: Bad feeling
Post by: sunshine windows on May 17, 2017, 10:32:51 pm
Landed my largest domestic job by a long margin this week but am already having doubts as to how long the job will take.

I'm sure I'll breeze through it, as I always tend to over estimate things.

Anyone else doubt their own ability to judge timescale of a job?

This is for a complete gutter, fascia and window clean of a property around 5-6 times larger than an average house. An internal and external clean of 2 conservatories. One of which is approx 35ft in length. The other is a fairly standard size.

Dreading the conservatories 😫

Sounds like hour and a half, tops.

I landed my largest domestic a couple of weeks ago. Not largest in size but largest in time and value.  It's just plain awkward, lots of inconvenience. No access to the back. 4 storeys. Bars on external windows. Anyways, it's central London, I allowed two full days. Did it Monday and tuesday, very satisfying in the end.

give me well priced maintenance window cleaning any day of the week.easy money.occasionally ill do an add on job but i refuse inside window cleaning esp conservatory roofs.they are a pain and too much like hard work for me.even if they are very well priced.

I mostly agree with this. Although I'm doing a secondary school in a couple of weeks - outside only. Pretty sure it's 3 man days and I've priced it at 4, but still a slight worry.

If only Matt! Think it's going to take 3-4 days but have priced it for 5 just to be safe. How come you're targeting central London? I thought you lived fairly close to Wiltshire? Well done on the job though.

This one's got awful access to the back of the large conservatory and some of the guttering is going to be a heck of a challenge too.

I agree Daz. I'd take the same money on windows any day of the week, but it was too  big a job to turn my nose up at. I'd only be dossing around and given chores by the missus otherwise 😂

Glad I'm not the only one who does this 8 weekly!

Had one of those 'bad feeling' jobs three weeks ago. Nothing like the same scale. It included a Large awkward conny roof which I just couldn't get it to a standard I was happy with no matter what I did. So I'm thinking the customer isn't gonna be happy either.
Went back to see her and she was over the moon especially with the conny roof and I ended up getting a regular job out of it.

M&C I think that goes to show that you have very high cleaning standards and expectations. It's really nice when a customer tell you they have never seen their conservatory looking that clean since the day it was installed.

I had a site visit this morning. I'd forgotten how big it is. But also I quoted 8 months ago when we were a bit shorter of work. Fortunately about 70% of the windows have been replaced in the last 3 months otherwise I would have walked away this morning. Mostly I'll be cleaning clean windows. I'm gonna do it myself over 3/4 short days and only call in help if I think I'll struggle to finish. But... a lucky escape really.

I'm not sure I could put up with his deep discontentment.

A few pics of the job this week. Not going too bad to be fair. All gutters and windows done yesterday. Both rear conservatories cleaned externally today. Insides tomorrow

More like it sounds like are selling it I'd steer clear if that's the first time they've had anyone for ages, this is the time of year people want everything cleaned ready for the estate agents

Must have been a real ball breaker today in the heat inside those conservatories.  Rather you than me .

Forgot the sun cream on Monday. Looked like a lobster on Tuesday. Roasting my nuts off today and hope to have finished or almost there tomorrow.

Priced it well enough to last the week, so anything before a Friday finish is a bonus.

As for turning work away if they're not regulars, is lunacy in my eyes. Charge accordingly and you can't go wrong.

I hope you're not finishing that job without first cleaning/treating those manky/algae infested  house and conservatory render walls?  If not half a job springs to mind. Extra 600 should cover it. Not to mention that large block paved driveway needs a lot of TLC too. Give me a shout if you want me to finish the job off properly for you... No  mates rates mind but will offer you training for free. lol

😂😂😂

I pitched the softwash option to the owner but she was having none of it. Just a tidy up before it goes on the market. £600 you bloody undercutter you! 😂😂😂

I would have done a free demo patch and written something like "Clean Me" or maybe "Bleach bandits rule...YEEHA!" then left promptly.

Don't get me started on the drive lol

All finished off yesterday around 4pm. 4 days of hard graft on that place. Don't want to see the inside of another conservatory for a very long time.
