had enough now! >:(
snapped ANOTHER xtreme section today!thats 3 this year!(2 from the xtremes with the metal bands and one section from the newest version)
two sections snapped just using them as normal and one today closing a window. ::)roll
two section 3s and one section 2.
i have now officially got an xtreme sections graveyard!a couple of worn section 1 and 2s(paper thin and cracked at the bottom)and three section 4 and 5s! ::)roll ;D
i have a slx 22 but its a tad too short for lots of work so i thought id buy an insulated extension 6 so i have a slx 25 but their OUT OF STOCK! ::)roll
so ive bought a full slx 25 for my next main pole and ill buy extension 6 when their back in stock so i have 2 main poles.
ive managed to cobble together a few other sections and make an xtreme 25 albeit with a few well worn sections.itll do for now until my new slx gets delivered. :)
my xtreme 47 is still in very good condition but it only gets used around 10 times a month and will probably last me another 20 years! ;D
i thought id stick with the xtremes but im finding them a little bit too brittle for my liking.ok for occasional work over 25 ft though. :)

There's a knack to sitting windows with an Xtreme. Never do the slap the frame thing with it!!! It will create an hairline crack over time and then just snap when it's had enough.
I had a habit of flicking the water off the brush by whipping the pole down to the horizontal then back up. Heard a tiny crack one day and noticed slightly more movement than normal over next few weeks. Then snap about two months later.
Also, if you're going to shut windows, use the straight length of the pole and angle adapter for brush to push. If it's too tight, leave it.
You may have already done these things, if so, you must be too heavy handed out too strong ;D
-
Sorry about the typos, this keyboard is doing my head-in
-
it must be all this gym work!i ve never snapped a section on any pole til this year! ;D
truthfully i just dont think the xtremes are up to the rigours of every day poling for 6 -7 hours a day.
-
Careful Daz thats treason, you will be hung from an SL2 if Mr G sees that ;D ;D ;D

if u take the broken sections to a large coarse fishing shop they can send it off to be carbon raped and it will be good as new or u can send it off to the link cost should be like £30 i get fishing pole carbon raped from time to time but i pay £20 as its a retired chap who does it from home

Lol, not fussed about the typos then Kingy ;D
I've had my Xtreme a few years now and still have an original 25' still going well ( some sections getting a bit thin) but I use it every day 7-8hrs :P (OK, the same as you), I don't work weekends, and not had a problem since I stopped the habit I mentioned in above post.
Maybe it's because I'm 5'9" and not a body builder ;D

ive given them a good go (over the last few years.xtreme mk 1,2 and 3) and i do think their brilliant poles for less frequent use at higher levels(30ft+).i wouldnt be without my xtreme 47 but the SLX is king at 25ft and under. :)
-
Love all my slxs
Even like my supermax
Extremes I don't get on with, but if I did enough very high level work I'd get an extreme and treat it with kids gloves
Gardiners are the only poles for me!!!!
-
The more I read about them, the more I don't want one
-
Best pole is slx section 1&2, extreme 3,4 &5.
-
How old is the extreme v3 that you just snapped?
I view them as an expense that needs replaced every few years.
In reality I probably buy a new section every year or so. £100 per year to use the lightest and most rigid pole out there.
It would kill me to go back to a slx pole. More importantly and long term your shoulders will not be in as good condition then if you'd used extremes either.
I give it less than 12 months till your back on extremes daz.
If you factor in what we can earn from the pole, "the most used piece of equipment", they Cost pennies.
-

I have a set up of that nature.
-
you ve obviously not seen the size of my shoulders mate(im a bodybuilder too)! ;D
i doubt the slx poles will "kill me".your body naturally gets used to whatever poles your using.i will be using the extreme/ultimate brushes mainly and carbon goosenecks for some work.

ive never thought of that.cheers mate.i could cobble together something like that from my "pole graveyard"i think. ;)

my extremes are knackered after 18 months(used every day).so say i buy 2 at £550 a pop in a 3 year period. an slx at £300 would last the full 3 years so a saving of £800.
-
Well I use the CLX poles and they are fantastic..had mine for 3 years now it's my only pole a 30ft and it's just starting to come to the end of its life. Cheap pole, well made and durable. Been used 5 days a week 9 till 5 or more and no issues.

Nothing to do with how much weight you can lift!
I'm at the gym aswell and that really helps, but it's rsi in your shoulders and rotator cuffs that is damage you never can really undo. The added flex and weight at 20feet high is what can do it over time.
I'm 30 this year and been wfp window cleaning my whole working life, and I plan to make my working day as easy as possible.
Extreme poles, electric reels etc.
About 4 years ago I was using slx poles and getting niggles in my shoulders, couldn't even bench press or do incline dumbells at the gym without a sharp pain. That was a wake up call, and since switching to extreme poles my shoulders have been fine since.
The amount of guys I see getting to there 50's and there shoulders fall apart and stop them from working is crazy!
If your in it for the long term then your shoulders will be the part of your body that lets us down.
It's worth the extra expense in my opinion.

You mean your pole MUSEUM Daz!!!
You'll have the most valuable collection in christendom

I don't ever extend mine to the yellow or red bands when you do this it will weaken quicker and would be more likely to snap under tension, they last a lot longer if you do this it may mean you need to extend a section to reach slightly higher but it will make the pole last longer
-
I snapped 3 sections from my old xtreme v2. Ended up buying a new xtreme 22 and you have to treat it gently. I've got knackered elbows so no choice really. (or I could build a round trading bungalows!). Anyway I don't shut windows any more, just clean them open and be a bit careful. Still got my old slx 22 (ole faithful).

You get best of both worlds, most of the weight is in the bigger sections and it's 1&2 that go the most so go with cheap (ish)SLX sections that will be cheaper to replace, not much heavier and still rigid.
How are you keeping by the way?

jonny im 15 years older than you and never had the shoulder problems you ve had mate!(been window cleaning 24 years this year)
some of us are just made of stronger stuff!(a bit like slx poles! ;D ;D ;D)

does anyone know dai on here?he s in his seventies and using slx poles.if he can use them then anyone can!i think he s still using a trolley and barrels too!(not that ill be going back to that though) ;D

Mayb I just work harder. 8)
I might potentially have another 40 years of window cleaning ahead of me so I'm going to look after myself as best I can.

The clue's in the title for me...'Extreme' is for extreme use not an everyday domestic pole.
The SLX is the right balance IMO for weight to wear ratio.

Are the new van payments biting Daz? ;D

Great for a 60 year old crock
Did you get into franchising?
-
Are the new van payments biting Daz? ;D
no not at all.ive put my prices up which covers my monthly van lease payments mate. :)
when you snap 2 sections of a £550 pole(thats not been used much either) in the space of a month and nearly damage a customers window in the process(which follows snapping a section of another xtreme pole on the 4th jan)you tend to get a bit miffed. >:( ;D

what do you do when you need all 25ft of your main pole regularly? (at least a few times a day)i do.

Have an extreme 22 for everyday, a 30 for any taller windows, and 47 for high stuff.
The compact length of a 22 is great compared to the 25.
-
unfortunately jonny i cant get away with using a 22 footer as an every day pole.it comes up short on quite a few jobs and id waste time getting another pole out for the odd window here and there.25ft is perfect.also i dont always like to fully extend each section to reach a window(its more rigid that way).
-
If you must shut windows with it then it upside down and use the butt end to do it that's what I do and no issues.

Hijack thread warning 😃
60 last feb
Youngest son getting married in July
Both kids still fleecing me
Part time now, slowly winding down to retirement at 67!!!!
Sold loads of work
Still ticking over
You younguns need to be expanding, glad you're doing well
Franchising sounds better than employing
BTW, ever since I held your slx I've bought a few, best decision ever, thanks for the tip, I think it was back in 2010
Cu around, although I think the nearest i get to your patch is Grappenhall

I had an enquiry over that way last week. I'll dig it out if you're interested? I've a 15 year old, he's costly right now but i think the worst is yet to come. Can't believe that was 7 years ago we met up.
Franchising is good, it pays alot less than employing but much less stress. I'm trying to cut back myself, want to finish 3.30ish most days. For a while window cleaning took over, was struggling to manage everything. Put off price increases for to long which didn't help. We should meet up for a coffee one day you're in grappenhall. Let me how a bit in advance and I'll put my lymm work on same day if you fancy it.
-
That sounds good
We could talk footy as well!!!
Better get off here and communicate privately
I'm on 07816294334
Yeah I'll take grappenhall jobs, nice area.
Window cleaning is a lot more complicated than 1972 when I first cleaned windows for cash
Text me
Cheers
