Title: sureflow pressure swich
Post by: Lakes and Pennine on May 01, 2016, 12:21:26 pm
The surflow pump just started playing up, building a bit pressure then cutting out, starting up again. Not had time to have a go at it yet as we been off wild camping for the night, but need to get it going for tomorrow morning.

I know nowt about the pressure switch or how to alter it? any ideas?

On the other hand it could be a bad connection somewhere, but would appreciate any advice on pressure switch

Thanks

If it was me i would not just inspect every connection, i would re do every connection first and make 100% certain they where all good. The pressure switch.............this is what you want from Maplins.

They're very easy to replace. Pull out old one and push in new one. One wire to the side terminal and one wire to one of the two at the top. Doesn't matter which one or which way round. You will find that your Shurlow spade terminals are larger than the spades on the new micro switch. I just replaced mine with smaller spades.

the pumps about 18 months old. going to go through every connection.
it can get temperamental. Sam occidentally knocked it up to full pressure last week and it just locks...cant switch pump on again. have to disconnect outflow , take off filter bowl and release all pressure before you can turn it on again...its a real faf

Unplug the wires, then undo the four screws (i put marks in red to them). Cap comes off the end, micro switch fits in that. You don't need to touch the centre allan key nut, and no water will come out anywhere either.

* Edit to add, its three screws to take out not 4 like i said.

There's also a small black plastic plunger in there and a spring, just pay attention so you know how it goes back on. If you get stuck, i'll disassemble a spare one i have and take some pics, but you should be ok.

Thanks clean. A mate had a spare so I borrowed his and took mine to bits as you show. Will get a new switch ordered from Maplins..Thanks for all your help.
Now all I need is the 50 mph gusts in the pennines to go away

You will need smaller spade connectors as CleanClear mentioned earlier, so might be worth remembering to pick those up also while in Maplins.
Would be worth buying two switches so you have a spare.
