Title: Here's one I didn't do earlier
Post by: Dave Willis on March 18, 2016, 04:43:33 pm
How much for a full gutter/fascia clean including emptying? I didn't do it - somebody else did (my customer) just curious what you would have charged?

Oh well here goes but don't have a pop peeps as I'm not cheap

gutter clear inc garage 200
fsg inc garage 250
Oh and a free window clean afterwards
Including all doors & twin garage doors

That would be a proper deep clean not just a quick once over splashing water about.

Happy now   :P

As a rough guess, I'd say £70-80 on clearing out (gutter vac) and then £80 for gutter /fascia clean. They don't look too bad! And with not many trees close by the house gutters inside might not be too bad either.

It was pretty green and there are trees over the road. The guy also missed to sections on the far end and the back of the garage. All done by hand.

Post by: NWH on March 18, 2016, 05:18:49 pm
I would want £220-250 I've done some of these but I prefer to do other work coz these can hold you up a bit and more can be earned in the time taken, lots of these have loads and loads of vents and can keep brining out dirt from the underneath. If I did it I would say it will have to be a wet day though I wouldn't waste a nice sunny day on it.

Ah,right! Then I'd up my price a bit more then. I still reckon to make decent money though even if parts are green. I usually do a quick tester patch just to see how easy or not it comes off. Then it gives me an idea of how awkward it might be. Adjust price accordingly.

3 hours tops with plenty of tea breaks hot water and a good degreaser soaked in would make that job easy, the gutters would be easy more hassle to move the machine than to use it on that little job. I'd be dragging it out at 3 hours. I would drive past and see if they were out so I could fly round it. 👌🏿👌🏿

Seriously I have done jobs like that for 450 or I would not have said it.
I given em a price what I want out of the job and is up to them if they want it done or not.

I'm not saying you haven't pal but like I said that isn't a 450 job IMO and I wouldn't charge that,I have some what some might say overpriced work but 450 wouldn't come into my head for that on the walk round it's a tiddler really.

If they pay you 450 for houses like that for a wash down I would say they have had very little experience in having such jobs done m8,it would be a case of its a matter of time on an estate like that normally jobs like that are purely a price making decision if they get another price look out you'll be down the road pal, just my opinion.
Title: Re: Here's one I didn't do earlier
Post by: Smurf on March 18, 2016, 06:06:54 pm
It even suprises me somtimes when you put in a sill high price because you don't really want the job and they still say YES  ;D
I'm not taking about regulars but one-off cleans.

One job that sticks in my mind was a chap I charged quite a lot for and he ended up having his gutters check & cleared every 6 months so regular work still comes in charging top dollar to start with.

Smurf can I ask have you always charged these prices?
Or does the fact that your semi retired and now only working for a bit of extra cash mean you quote as high as possible and not care if you get the work?
Surely in your 'peak' years you wouldn't be risking going in so high and getting turned away alot.

No I don't normally charge that much for that sort of size easy jobs as I'm just messing about.
But I do put in silly high prices from time to time if I don't really want the job and get some of them still.

£90 for full UPVC clean including fascias/soffits/outside gutters/downpipes/garage doors plus the normal regular window cleaning price on top.

time taken-90 mins for the add on work then say 30 mins for the windows(including setting up/packing away).

i dont offer gutter clearing so i wouldnt be doing that.

its an easy job.no access issues.in fact i could end up doing the job in less time(above is MAX time taken to complete the job)

very hot water, virosol and sill brush.

if it was a one off clean and a non window cleaning customer £150 for everything including windows

Gutter clear : £110
GFS Clean inc down pipes and garage doors: £140
Windows: £32
Total: £282

£60 I'm not surprised either. I'd rather do one at £282 rather than 4 at £60 each and still be £40 short. Oh and they missed bits, what a surprise.

Dave if she thought 60 was expensive what the hell do you charge to clean their windows  ???

No disrespect but I can't be bothered with people like that as they are obviously price conditioned and/or living in the past by people offering to do jobs for next to bugger all.

Made me laugh though the poor bloke must have got hen pecked by his wife in the end to risk his own neck to do them himself just to save 60 squid.  I bet he was bricking it too.

I hear tragic stories from time to time of husbands taking on jobs  like that which  get hurt or worst killed falling off ladders just to try saving a few bob.

The one that sticks in my mind was a teacher that was up a ladder and his wife was supposed to be footing it for him but decided to go and make a cup of tea for them both.  Needless to say the husband never got the chance to drink his tea as he fell and died from head injuries.

What a tragic waist of a life all because they did not want to pay for a pro to do it safely for them instead  ::)roll

That would work out lower than my normal window rate per hour.its a 2 hour job max including windows (no gutter clearing though).same price but windows on top.say £20 for windows so

£90 for f/s/g. £20 windows :£110 (£55 an hour).more if it was a one off customer.

No, I don't want them - don't like doing them hate it! I carry a vac etc because sometimes I can't wriggle out of it.

I agree Dave, i earn a good wage at window cleaning and dont want the faff of  "extras".
When i clean houses at 15-20 pounds people dont mind, they dont see how much you earn as a one man band.
extras are hard work, gruelling on the neck and shoulders, so if you have been established for a long time you should have a band of loyal customers who you only need to clean windows for at a very comfortable hourly rate.
Like you i prefer, if possible to pass them on.
And like you, sometimes i cant wriggle out ie doing a few insides for a lovely old dear whilst she makes a cuppa. etc

That what I also find Martin, ask somebody for £20 to clean their windows and they don't seem to mind ask them for
hundreds to clean their new UPVC fascia's that they only had installed to save on maintenance charges ( repainting ) and
they look at you as if you have two heads.
Nice post.

Thanks Sean,
After 20 years window cleaning i like to keep it simple ie clean windows.
The weekly wage i earn does not justify breaking my back and neck staring 20-40 foot up for hours on end to get a few quid more!
Leave that to the big empolyers .

ps connie roofs are the worst, they are a s..t to do and customers look baffled when you say (for example ) 50 pounds.
Customers sometimes look at you like they have just been shot.
Title: Re: Here's one I didn't do earlier

I can understand why you hate doing them Dave as I do too especially if having to get the ladders off the van when needed to do them by hand. Some jobs you think are going to be easy and end up a PITA. I don't get many easy ones but makes a nice change when I do.

I've found out when speaking to customers if they have a window cleaner and most of them do they either can't or don't want to do them. Customers have also mentioned they prefer to pay more to get someone in like myself that is experienced and has all the equipment to do the job properly and most importantly safely.

Most property owners don't like using ladders or quite a few window cleaners for that matter as working at roofline height gutter clearing etc is a dangerous and awkward work. Same goes for fsg cleaning and also can be a very time consuming, hard graft for sure and if not priced well you could easaly earn more on the glass.

Regards pricing that is up to the individual/firm what they want to charge but I've learnt very quickly that most are happy to pay more for a professional service that takes their time to do the job properly and more importantly safely.

Obviously goes without saying bad one-off and first exterior deep cleans including plastics restoration work etc you would charge more than to regularly maintain them.

Like I mentioned in another thread pricing up jobs on just an hourly rate you can shoot yourself in the foot bigtime.  I don't blame you Dave passing roofline work onto others
