Do you worry about it? Take any precautions?
We are exposed to the rays far more than most jobs I reckon. I must admit I don't tend to smother myself in sun cream and gradually tan from Easter onwards, short sleeves and shorts. I do worry about it though particularly as so many older customers seem to suffer with it. Maybe this year I'll try harder.

I have see it highlighted on risk assesments, and the means to negate it (sun cream and covering clothing).

I wonder if, because of our continuous and gradual exposure to the Sun, we are at less risk than the general populous ?

Im in mid 30's, been in this job for over 14yrs and quite active with a young family out of work as well. So like most of us im guessing, I work mon -fri four wks a month. I have now a constant tan throughout the year (lol, permanent white vest mind you) and unless I make a real effort, I dont often cream up. (Ur suposedly top up the cream throughout the day, not just put on in morning and expect full day protection). I have noticed that I have gained quite a few more freckles on my arms over last couple of yrs. So im taking that has a warning sign!

I wear a bush hat when the sun is out. And when it's drizzly - it keeps the rain off my monocle!
I also put a bit of suncream on my face and neck when the weather warms up.

Plainly if you start with the precept that for pale skinned white people especially , the sun direct on your skin for a prolonged time is very bad for you. Even darker skinned people native to closer to the equator cover up for a reason. However this is at odds with the Western phsyche of "get a tan" . If you think about it the whole concept of "sunbathing" is quite perverse given what we know now, even moreso when you sit there with cream on so the suns rays don't get to you, while you're sitting , or laying there hoping they do so you can "go brown". Just cover up totally and accept the fact you're white !!! ;D

I had to see a dermatologist last year had a few moles was concerned about he said " If working outside wear a hat from March to end of October even if its not hot and put on a sun block with a high uv number "

From mid-April to the end of August if there's any chance of sun, I wear a thick layer of factor 50 sunblock. I put on so much that I look like a ghost. I reapply at lunchtime and wear a hat all day. Even with that I end up with a pretty enviable tan.
All of us on here are either facing the sun or its reflection all day and dermatologists will tell you that there's no safe limit, so it's worth looking after your skin.

i had a few dodgy looking moles removed a few years ago and the doctor said i should cover up and NEVER GO OUT IN THE SUN WITHOUT A LONG SLEEVED SHIRT,HAT AND LONG TROUSERS! ::)roll sod that.
he also said i should check my moles every month.thing is ive got that many moles,freckles its like looking at the stars at night.impossible.esp on my top half thats been exposed to the sun the most.
i always slap on factor 30 before work in summer on sunny days and wear a cap.i never wear shorts for work( only when on holiday or relaxing at home).
it doesnt worry me though.whats the point in worrying?

dont forget to put suncream on your ears as well.

My wife, who is fair skinned, had a melanoma removed from her arm 5 years ago, meaning she now has a big chunk missing just below her elbow. She can't go out in the sun without covering up completely or plastering herself with skin cream.
I on the other hand am darker skinned, tan at the first glimpse of the sun (people are already commenting on it), I never use skin cream, and don't have any problems.
There's no justice sometimes.

I on the other hand am darker skinned, tan at the first glimpse of the sun (people are already commenting on it), I never use skin cream, and don't have any problems.
There's no justice sometimes.

Twice I've asked if I've been away! Normally brown as a berry by Easter. Should take more care really

Got one on my face.
Did not itch or bleed. Just looked like a small mole. Not even raised or discoloured.
Got a roasting from consultant.
Had to have it cut out.
Told to cover up, cream up.......
Only upside was the cut got rid of a few wrinkles! :-)

I'm the same as yourself John but to be honest I don't know if its a good or bad thing, at least if you burn easily you are
more likely to take the proper care.
The thing is you don't have any problems until you have a problem.
