I've been a long time swiveller - love them. I've used the Gardiners swivels since they came out but fitted a couple of swivels with their little brush plate that puts the swivel right on the brush, never thought they made much difference, until I grabbed a brush and resineck from the van with the screw in type socket. I couldn't understand why I couldn't get on with it to begin with - brush seemed really unstable flopping about all over the place, drove me nuts then it dawned on my why.

I've got a pal who uses these or something similar. I liked idea, though I had never really struggled to get to any of my work without one as I found that the bristle splay of the brush was all I needed to get in the corners. So I thought I'd give a swivel a go. Absolutely hated it!
To be fair though it didn't stay on my pole for long. Perhaps I should have persevered.

i love swivels & looked at this plate but i cant see what difference it would make, can you explain a bit more please

I've been using that same swivel for a while and love them especially with the long arm.

Couldn't get on with them either, please explain how they have an advantage over non swivel...

First of all the swivel plate puts the point of swivel much closer to the brush itself and makes it much more stable.
The point of a swivel is the whole brush head is always flat to the glass no matter what angle your pole is at and the brush can be put vertical or horizontal so it fits the square corners of the frame. The other advantage is even with a fairly long collapsed pole things like patio doors are a doddle.

Swivel with log arm is the best used with slightly tightened screw. Trial and error is needed so pole sections don't spin. It helps in tight spots where otherwise you would be hooking/bashing something while cleaning windows - brush can sit more squarely to cleaned surface. Also if you are doing set back windows allowing for more control while rinsing problematic frames. It takes a day to get used to but it is well worth it.

I remember now one of the reasons I didn't like the swivel neck. I find that when I come across baked on bird muck I can apply a bit more pressure with one side of the brush by twisting the pole to help scrub it off. However, with a swivel attached I can't do that as all that happens is that the brush turns. I don't like any kind of scraper fitted to my pole/brush. Is there a way round this?

I've found you don't need a scraper or put loads of pressure on the brush if you use hot/warm water instead of cold

Is hot water the only solution to the bird muck problem when using a swivel with a brush? I don't use hot water most of the year. But I wouldn't mind giving the swivel another go if I can see a way round this problem.

I clean all year with hot water as makes my jobs so much easier especialy in summers months with tree sap, bug poo etc. Works really well on cleaning frames, fsg's, barge boards, conservatory roofs, cladding etc too.

If you are talking about glass only then you could either put velcro on the stock ends of the brush which is not ideal on a swivel brush or use a gardiner scraper and scrub pads. Another solution is to use somthing like a reach around adaptor with a doodle bug pad holder or just diy your own somehow.

Regarding plastics I came up with this idea a while ago to apply chems an scrub awkward dicoloured plastics when you don't want to or can't get to them safely using ladders and do them by hand.

Know that the swivel works OK dare I say side to side motion which a few other brushes now have.
Had made one with slightly angled down.
Found it gave smoother movement and better control when using.
This is good to use anyway you want.
