First Xtreme pole September.
Took it apart Christmas to clean it and noticed the carbon was split at one end, not badly but enough to email Alex about. Alex advised that it needed cleaning more regularly and some new end tape made it good again.
I bought an Exceed pole over Christmas and have used that since. Yesterday I converted the Xtreme to tubeless and took it to work today, pushed a window shut, (I know I know) BANG.
I think I'm too extreme for these poles.
I would also say for anyone like myself, sole trader, 20 to 30 houses a day, always in a rush, push windows shut and clean poles infrequently, the SLX beats it hands down.
Gutted.

I think your right, slx seems the better option for man handling and work horse style cleaning, I'd like to try an xtrmeme but have seen a lot of cracks in this forum, putting me off
-
have to say i have an extreme pole but to be honest for the weight you save and how often you have to replace sections wished i had bought an slx far more user friendly have an slx 18 4 years fab pole
-
If I was doing loads of houses all day where the pole is up and down all the time I defo wouldnt pay out hundreds on a pole, I'd use a 27ft unger pole slightly heavier but a cheap glass fibre pole. What I Like about the unger pole when it starts spinning you can just take the amp off put insulating tape where the clamp would sit over it and it's like a new pole. I do a lot of commercial and use this with a Gardiners sill brush had it about 2 years and still a good pole. I've got the slx 35ft and superman 55ft which I use these occasionally
You can get a bare unger pole for about £90 bargain if it lasts me 3 years
Or more can't go wrong.

Let me know if ya selling the extreme ;D :D

Looking at the pic I think its in the wrong bin the poles black not green ;)
-
We use SLX-25's as everyday poles and they're excellent. We have a 35ft extreme we use ad-hoc for higher windows/velux etc. Think its too lightweight to use all day every day imo.
-
I e used mine every day years now ever since they came on Market

How has the extreme cracked across like that, has it been extended beyond its marking/stopper tape or something ?
-
looks like its user error!your not supposed to extend the section THAT much!(where its snapped).your supposed to clamp them ON THE METAL BANDS!! ::)roll
yes they are a bit more fragile than an slx but i love em.i have 3 Xtremes now(two 25 s and a 47).i wouldnt be without them.it makes your working day a breeze using them day in/day out. :)

Thank you Dazmond, I am aware of where they clamp.
The pole over 35' is maybe the best available, but for me as an everyday pole it's not robust enough

I have had my extreme 18 for a year
sections 1 and 3 snapped
stick to Slx from now on
-
we have two xtreme 47s , they get very little use and there both worn very worn , I would never buy one again there rubbish
a follow window cleaner binned his extreme after 11 months and wounld nt have one again
I good friend snapped both his xtremes in less then 4 weeks he wont have them ever again
not a pole for people with lots of work and big rounds
-
If you use them for cleaning windows then they are fine. Mine is used day in day out and I have lots of work. Be prepared to look after them a bit more than usual, clean them out etc.
If you use them to shove windows shut or lever them over garage roofs then buy something less sophisticated.

By sophisticated you mean fit for purpose? Window cleaners do sometimes need to 'lever' them over garage roofs and extensions. If they are only for special snowflake window cleaners then they should be sold as such.

Just because I sometimes like the 'road less travelled' doesn't mean you can call me a bummer :D T
he section is about 8/9 months old. I should have seen it coming, I could squeeze the section very easily it had worn so thin. Hindsight and all that, just glad there wasn't a car under it when it collapsed.

The Extreme is sold to people who need the lightest possible.
SLX is more suited to those with special needs.
Neanderthals should buy Aluminium from Brodex.

Quite simply not true, Susan.
It's horses for courses.

I've got the 3rd section for sale with the metal bit on only couple of month use £50
-
i use my extremes all day every day for everything including f/s/g cleans, conny roofs and solar panels.
my main 25 lasted 18 months and im on my second extreme 25(bought in dec 14).the older one just needs the top 2 sections replacing and itll be good to go for another 18 months i reckon.
as for snapping poles.ive never snapped a section on any poles ive used in nearly 5 years wfp and i shut windows with em every day.maybe ive just been lucky.
my extreme 47 gets used about 10 times a month and its coming up to 2 years old.it still looks brand new.i reckon itll last me 10 years before needing a replacement.
if it does last me 10 years thats less than £100 a year(it was £850 in the sale)less than £2 a week to use the best lightest high level pole on the market. ;)

What about the one who saved us from Suaron and all them Orcs? We could be living in a world without wfp otherwise.

Well, I'm pretty cautious with poles and I maintain them regularly. Still my xTreme snapped after well under a year (prob 8 months) of three day a week use. Flogged it and will not touch again.
I sincerely hope the new ones are stronger.

ide like to try one but im prity hard on my gear dont realy clean my slx much it gets bashed about quiet a bit now ide diched the aquadapter and got a univalve in its much liter ill hold out on the extreme untill i here more reviews on it

Waste of time trying to use an extreme pole to shut windows, they're not strong enough for that purpose. I only use to use extreme 44 on higher work but I must admit I'm addicted to using extreme 22 and 25 now on most jobs. Much quicker raising and lowering the poles, less fatigue, more work achieved in less time, ......love extreme poles. Keep a spare SLX for places where I know windows might be open and may have to push them shut with SLX pole so extreme stays in van on them jobs.

use your head.extend the top 2 sections half way instead of fully extended and stand further back when shutting top windows.ive never had a problem.
my xtremes get used on virtually ALL WORK all day every day including f/s/g cleans, conservatory roofs and cladding jobs.

I can't remember reading anywhere on the instructions that you can close Windows with them, they are the best poles on the planet for window cleaning which is correct. You need to look after them for them to last but IMO that is well worth the time and effort to do.

it takes 10 mins to flush out, clean and spray poles with PTFE once a month.this is all i do.im happy to buy a new xtreme every 2 years(my main pole).the reduced strain and ease of use day to day more than makes up for the extra expense/cost in buying these poles.
-
1 minute to flush it out which is what you should do on any other pole anyway, when working with an extreme it literally feels half the weight of any other pole and over the course of a day you can appreciate that.
-
What size pole you got Desmond .
I'm thinking of getting a Extreame 25 or 35ft pole
-
Received my extreme clamp anywhere 25 and 35ft poles last week Kempy, what a quality bit of kit they are m8 that fly out with a flick of the fingers and close with ease. Some poles take a while to break in these don't.
-
In 14 years I've snapped 5 sections mainly from leaving pole unattended and it falling over and breaking, broke two trying to close stubborn openers....now I don't bother closing them. Extreme poles really aren't strong enough for trying to push stiff openers closed, especially trying to smack the window frames shut.

Av got the 47 ( with the bands to clamp on ) and love it never had a problem with it, av never cleaned it and it's used most days as main pole
Me mate bought the 35 opened it up an leaned it in a corner, pole slipped and slid down snapping his number 1 section, he's since snapped number 1 again an not very happy, I may even buy him an slx an swap it for his extreme.
At the right price anyone selling these extreme poles I would take them off there hands
-
B & Q were selling a carbon repair kit for £7. I snapped an extreme no 1 section as I left it against a bedroom window sill and the wind swept it off the sill and it snapped clean in half as it landed against a concrete wall half way down the section. I repaired it using the carbon bandage wrap, sanded it down and it's stronger than before, still works.
-
pics of repair please
-
Don't have one but will do one sometime and post it on here. I didn't think it would repair the pole, had my doubts but it works, strong as original.Immerse the carbon bandage in luke warm water for a couple minutes, then wrap the carbon weave around the two broken sections tightly, then wrap the sellophane type plastic over the top to squeeze excess water out, leave for 5 mins and remove sellophane wrap. Hard within one hour but I left mine overnight to fully harden. Sanded it down with a rasp file to remove excess carbon wrap then used an electric sander to sand down remainder leaving a smooth uniform layer a few milimetres protruding above the circumference of the pole where I use it for clamping and for added strength. I half heartily expected it to work like it said on the box and it does.
