As title. Is there anything you can do? Has anybody genuinely egged their windows? Its only £30 and I know you will say move on but they live 5 doors up and it stresses me when I drive past.
Steve :(
-
just do it steve ;)
-
They would know it was me and she works in the court!! lol
-
how many cleans is that
-
3 cleans.
-
3 cleans.
Why not a letter before action?
-
She works in the court? Its obvious what you need to do then. Get a letter off from Thomas Higgins.
-
I've only really lost it once - quite recently when I emptied a spay can of G101 over the front of their house. Another time I wrote and threatened court action but generally I move on - probably lose two to three hundred a year in non-payment.
-

what a bitch , in that case block the drive, believe me she wont want the publicity :)

Steve :(
We just usually knock on the door and ask for it.
-
Called so many times and got so many excuses its now embarrassing. Makes me feel bad and im not at fault. Did think of blocking the drive :)

Murder her with a chainsaw.

;D ;D ;D

I call a few times, and if I am given a different excuse each time, I realize that I am wasting my time and effort on them.
It may sound as though I should follow it up, and this is true I know, but I would just get seriously stressed, angry, and more disturbingly perhaps, inclined to do something stupid in retaliation.
But two wrongs don't make a right, so I cull them there and then and concentrate on looking after the decent customers I have who appreciate my service. I have several good friends who are also window cleaners in my town, so I forewarn them to avoid those who have stung me. Their chances of getting another decent window cleaner range from slim to impossible.

I'd love to be that strong Johnny :(

Knock every night at exactly the same time-perhaps 9:05pm.
Knock very loudly. Very loudly.
Always be cheery.
Never feel that you are being a nuisance. It's them causing nuisance by withholding payment for your services.
Even better if you can discreetly make some of her/your neighbours aware.
As for the court thing-don't worry. That will be more of a threat to her than you if you decide to go legal...

Kids will do anything for a bag of sweets on hallowe'en ;)

Put a bill through her next door neighbour's "by mistake" - the neighbour will drop it round to your ex-custy - your ex-custy may not pay but they will hate the fact that their neighbour knows they've bumped the window cleaner for payment.

WRITE IT OFF AND MOVE ON!
she obviously has no intention of paying.luckily its not something that happens very often to me.i think this year its around £60 ive had to write off due to moving/dying.
the last one i can remember where i kept getting fobbed off was a £25 debt(one clean)last year.i just dumped it and concentrated on the 99.99% of customers that pay!
its not worth getting stressed about it for £30!
-
Agree with Dazmond there comes a time when its just better to walk away, learn by it and don't
let anybody your not sure off run up three cleans without payment.
-
Yup, agree with Dazmond and Sean. I have one in particular who owes me 90 euros for several cleans. I haven't written it off, but if she ever asks me to clean her windows again (and she has, believe it or not) I remind her of her debt and once she has settled that and paid for the fresh clean up front, I will do them for her.
It actually makes me laugh now. I know I'll never see the money, but then she knows she'll never have me over again.

I used to let it wind me up and play on my mind, now I just use a 3 step process. I don't care if its £6 or £600 its my money not theirs.
1. Letter requesting payment within 14 days.
2. Letter referring to letter 1 requesting payment within 14 days or it'll be passed to solicitors with associated costs added to their account.
3. Thomas Higgins letter before action.
Only at this point would I pay any attention to the amount owed and I'd make a decision on whether its worth pursuing through small claims although I've had 100% success with Thomas Higgins so never got to this point, if the amount was too little for me to be bothered with court I'd write it off and never let it bother me again.

When I was younger in my twenties I was working with my brother, a guy refused point blank to pay. His wife had left him and he told us it was her debt, even though he watched us clean the windows. So my brother told him I took the dirt off, now i'll put it back on ... he then took a load of dirt out of his front garden, mixed it into his bucket of water and threw it over every window ;D

It's Halloween very soon so you'd get away with egging the windows as she would think it was kids ;D

PMSL well funny!
-
I feel its important to have a policy and procedure to deal with none payment. Then apply it as you have decided best for your business.Just do it regardless. As Alistair@AWCS has stated. It should be as if it was natural to do it.

Only £120 - but its the principle of it.
Next time I'm in the UK I will be knocking on his door!

Post his address on here. Whoever closest should go and get it and split it with you 50/50.
(Unless it's me who owes you-if so, you should just write it off ;D)

I like that idea Poleking - He's in Solihull West Midlands if anyone fancies trying,..

For me it's the principle all the time. I can live with a few non-payers, after all £30 odd isn't going to impact my life. For me it's the fact some toe-rag has had one over on me.
I work hard for my money (we all do) and I expect to be paid for services rendered.
I can't be bothered with small claims courts because it just isn't worth the effort. So for me it's a case of: "I'm out £30(or whatever)and I'm not going to get it. Fortunately I can live without it but I do want some revenge/fun."
I always:
PUT THE EFFING DIRT BACK ON!

Next step is easy Nat, but it will cost you £25 (which you add to the costs claimed). Its using the Court Service Money Claim Online to make a claim. Here's some general advice............
https://www.gov.uk/make-court-claim-for-money/overview
Here's the actual MCOL (money claim online) website.........
https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/web/mcol/welcome
Also note that claims do need really to be written out in a specific way for the courts. Also before you go the Claim route you need to send correct letters before action of your intent if they do not pay. For specific advice on your best way forward i'd advice you to use the Consumer Advice Group Forums, known as CAG. You will find all the guidance you need there.

Called so many times and got so many excuses its now embarrassing. Makes me feel bad and im not at fault. Did think of blocking the drive :)
Then i would knock and i would say..."listen this is getting a bit embarrassing for me having to keep knocking round for money. Can you pay now, if not what do you want to do to get it paid so i don't have to keep coming round pestering you. You tell me the best way forward for you to get it paid?"
Thats what i'd be doing.
-
Wait til you see them talking to some one in public and walk straight up to them and ask for your money it worked for me once got my money and how satisfying to see them squirm with embarassment
-
go back when you are sure they are out kid on you are cleaning windows but just rub em down with a manky old skrim put 30 quids worth of dirt back on ;D simples
-
Why don't you go back and ask for a convenient time for you to collect your payment. It used to stress me out but now I tend to just write it off and move on. Imagine what they would say if their pay cheque wasn't there at the end of the month.
I once had a customer who said he wasn't going to pay as he had no proof I had been, I told him I had posted a slip and would continue to return until I was paid. Knowing he wouldn't answer the door I had prepared a tiny sliver of bamboo cane, as I knocked I inserted the sliver deep into hi Yale lock. A couple of days later I noticed a piece of plywood had now replaced a glass pane. Result.
-
I'm sure. I wonder who that says the most about, you or him.
I've been turned over more times this last year than ever before. Often I scheme to return and carry out my revenge plan but I never have. I've other things more meaningful in my life to pursue I guess, maybe I haven't got the time.
I'm surprised you don't put something like that in your terms and conditions - 'if you don't pay us well send the boys round to cause criminal damage to your property'. Sure it'd go down a storm.
-
The lock gets vandalised and the customer notifies the police, the police ask do you know if anybody has
a grudge against you.
Customer replies yes I owe the window cleaner money and I refused to pay him.
Police well we now have a suspect will give him a call.
He admitted everything online case solved. ;D
-
egg the windows ,tennis balls in the fall pipe anything to make me feel better
-
I've had around three apparently bad debts that have surprised me in the last few days, and they've came out and paid me. Yesterday I thought about parking in front of the drive to block them going to work as I clean a few from that spot but choose not to and they eventually came out waving notes in the air. It was only two cleans but had missed them twice as I had a bad feeling about them. So I'm glad I never got the chainsaw out ;D

Police ain't that clever. It would take someone with brains to get that result.
