Honest opinions please guys!
Whilst driving to a job today I hit someone's parked van with my wing mirror! It made a right loud bang , but luckily just bent my wing mirror in but the glass panel fell out, I'm guessing I must of caught there wing mirror,
Anyway as I was in shock I just carried on driving to next job.
Anyway feel guilty incase I've done damage to there wing mirror, would there's of probably just folded backwards as mine took the brunt of the force.
It was a transit pick up what I clipped!
What would you have done?
Would you of stopped?
-
Yeah I would have stopped.
Wing mirrors are also designed to be folded the wrong way, but usually what happens is the piece of glass pops out too and gets cracked. Usually costs about £50 to replace the glass depending on which model.
Basically your going to the bad fire and there's no going back now. Shame on you.
😀😀😀

The bad fire lol
-
I would have carried on driving..
-
If it was the same model as mine, I would have gone back and taken his glass as replacement.

Good grief, is English your first language? ;)
I thought you were a selfish numpty at first, but as you felt guilty, maybe not. Do you think they had parked outside their house? If so, go there tomorrow and sheepishly offer to pay if there's any damage.
You will feel very good about yourself. :)

Drive on if quiet. If van is sign written up or your local ...dunno mate, risky. Most people drive on

That makes it OK?

It happened to me a few years ago. I drove passed a parked transit with a trailer. I clipped his mirror with my Relays mirror. There was a loud bang. My mirror was hanging off. You have about 5 seconds to decide whether to stop or not. I didn`t. I hoped nobody was in the van. I flew on up the road as quick as I could. Next thing I saw the transit behind flashing its lights. I had to stop and apologise. Cost me a new mirror. If it happened again I would stop.
Steve :o

You were in shock? What from the tinkle of broken mirror?

+1 if you damaged someone's property why shouldn't you pay to repair it?
-
I would have carried on driving..
Idiot.

You do a bad turn and it always comes back on you guaranteed! If it were my vehicle you hit and run I'd want to chin ye !
-
About 15 years ago , one frosty morning, I set off to go and clean some windows. Running late, I never cleared the windscreen properly (I see the irony there), frosty windscreen + low sun = can't see where you are going. I managed to clip the mirror or a parked Astra, being about 5:30 - 6:00 there was no one about so I could have drove on. Instead I wrote my details on a scrap of paper and left it under the window wiper.
I ended up fixing the mirror myself and got speaking to the owner, Barrie. He is now one of my best friends.
And we all lived happily ever after.
Moral of the story is - try not to be a c word.

Ive never believed in all that you do something it comes back on you nonsense
Good and bad things happen thats just a fact.
You should stop though and pay if any damage, thats just decent behaviour
karma has feck all to do with it though.
-
you damage someone's vehicle and do a runner that's called a criminal offence simple as that.
-
it's a criminal offence to do a hit and run and not leave your insurance details. Have no pity for people like you who push up insurance premiums :(
-
That would explain why he hasn't come back to the thread
Same poop different day.
-
He's clipped someones wing mirror, not killed anyone... ;D
Would I have stopped? Debatable, time does equal money :D
(cue abuse)

hey james I bet you would be the first one to curse at anyone who would act in such a way towards you. you would be the kind of geezer if you ever happened to damage any of your customers' property deny everything if not caught red handed . i have no respect for individuals who put money above everything.
-
i would have stopped and left details every time. the karma thing... you do pay a price for cheating people or doing wrongs to people. the price is you feel guilty...
much better to pay up and know that you are a good person doing a good thing. you can sleep easy then

You must be constantly stopping with your track record with vans ;D

I have had 4 wing mirrors smashed in total on my van. In only one of the cases did I actually witness it, but in all cases the culprits just drove on. Says it all about society these days, people do not give a **** anymore and are all about themselves.
Sure its only a wing mirror but at £30 - £40 a time it adds up.
If you really have to think twice about it, don't come on here whinging when someones reversed in to your van and driven off etc. - it could happen and how would you feel ?
-
Why have you got 4 wing mirrors on your van? An accident waiting to happen that is.
-
I clipped someone's bumper last year.
I was honest, found out where they lived, knocked the door.
Told her what I'd done and offered to pay for it.
A mate of mine is a Nissan body shop tech.
It just happened to be a Nissan I clipped.
Damage was absolutely minimal, tiny split in the bumper.
The bitch I hit, refused everything I offered.
And wanted to go through insurance so she could screw them.
All told, got over £2k's worth of work.
And I lost some no claims.
I was really angry.
Would I stop again? Yes.
Would I offer my insurance details willingly? No.
-
would be interesting one poll this.
You should have stopped and left details, you can't predict how the other party will react, but in the eyes of the law and morally you have done the correct thing.

Yeah, I'd've always felt guilty if I'd've legged it.
I just expected (not expected but you know what I mean) that the owner would react in the same way I would.
Van driver crashed into me 2 years ago in the snow, my van was less than a year old.
The fella looked distraught. I went out of my way to help him. It was a genuine accident.
Same with me and this woman. I'm over it but was angry at the time.
I think people should help people rather than just money grab.

Nor whining about customers that cancel on the day.
-
Was it just money grabbing though?
Some idiot was overtaking a tractor while I was coming the other way. We both slammed on the brakes and were all but stopped by the time we collided. His Beemer cost him £50 to fix, I agreed to a nominal amount (£500 or something like that), thinking all I needed was a new bumper, steering rod, headlight and recovery costs. I did the repairs myself.
Next MOT time and I discover the bearings, half shaft and hub need replacing. If it had gone to an insurance approved garage (or worse - Land Rover themselves) repairs would have been more than £2k for sure. As it turned out I lost probably about £200 trying to be fair with some idiot who was overtaking when it wasn't safe.
Sometimes it's better to do things right. That's what insurance is for.

Went back this morning,
It was an old piky wagon I clipped , no damage at all to is, just bent is wing mirror round.
The wing mirrors on the old piky wagons must be strong.
