I spoke to this guy today.... in Leicester we have tap TDS of about 350-400..... this guy uses only a DI system, caning a whooping, 1 bag of resin per month. Does the old, two DI cylinders.... thats costing him around 900 quid per year..... how many others are happy to cane resin like this?

£900 per year does sound like a lot of money to spend on resin per year.
But I suppose it depends on the man's circumstances.
Obviously an RO would be more efficient and cheaper in the long run, but that might not be practical if for example he lives in a top floor flat and has difficulty hooking up to a hose for hours at a time?
He might think the convenience of using DI resin is worth the cost if it's saves other hassle?

That's not that bad really - compared to my £25 a week on water meter.

Depends on your priorities. That works out at £18.75 a week based on 48 weeks working. One decent sized house ;D
Saves all the messing around with filters, membranes, booster pumps, timers etc etc plus there's no waste water to pay for.
Could seem like an attractive alternative to some :P

Yeah water is a freaking killer too....... have you ever thought of subsidizing for rain water to help with that cost..... or are you not in a property that could not take the infrastructure oe would look unsightly in your beautiful garden for that or do you just think the cost of setting up and effort not worth the saving?

must be an age thing......got excited when i saw "canning" ;D

It would help but I can't be arzed. Idealy you'd want a nice big underground tank. Not feasable in my property. All that work would disturb the horses and probably make the swimming pool subside.

We go through that amount but running 3 vans on DI only, 51 weeks a year 8)
