to protect against frost would u reckon the pump is at risk?
i can easily remove 100m hosereel or would u just suggest i turn off valve from tank and pump out whatever water is in hosereel and leave it out there
heavy frost forecast tonight
thanks lads

If you can run an extension lead out to your van put an oil rad in in the back of your van that will protect everything . Mike

Quilts or Decorators Sheets, old blankets and wrap up well it's got be more than ground frost to really freeze a DI vessel up.
You can always pour some hot water over the reel if it's frozen up.
I don't bother until about -4

We have a van that is left to the elements over night.
We switch off the tap from the tank, unscrew the filter bowl and empty, and switch the pump on. The pump will empty itself by sucking air and pushing it through the pipe to the van ports. We use a hose joiner to let the water empty at those ports onto the ground.
We bring the hose reel inside. The pole hose is also drained so there is less water in there to freeze if you can't bring them inside. I would cover the tank with a duvet as has been suggested.
You may have to run the van and warm the back up a bit to get you going in the morning. A hot towel wrapped around any frozen pipes does get them thawed reasonably quickly.

no need to drain anything apart from gas heater when you get one if you stick an oil filled radiator in the back overnight.
my DI vessels get taken in from my storage space.they are never in the van anyway.my reel also gets taken inside to make room for oil filled radiator. :)

ok lads i think il take in hose reel but it would take something very severe to damage pump or di vessels if ive duvet wrapped round them then , ??

You're pump is an integral part for your work if that gets damaged or you Di becomes frozen depending on your set up you wont be working tomorrow .
Better of getting an oil rad better to spend now instead of not being able to work . Mike

are these oil filled rads 100% safe with regard to fire etc then lads?

I dont use one as my truck is garaged , But plenty of lads do . Mike
