Has anyone done this on themselves? i realize as i'm self employed i can only do a basic DBS check on myself but i'm wanting to do a standard one. Ive done a bit of research on this and it seems if you go through an DBS agency they can act on your behalf and get the standard check done.
Has anyone gone through this process or is a basic check good enough for the likes of care homes etc, i knows its down to the individual care homes requirements but was just wondering if anyone has had experience of this and could point me in the right direction.
thanks

Paul it's a CRB check Disclosure Scotland. I got one basic cost me £25 only needed basic as I'm not working in a school or care home full time, as I'm only at schools and homes for a short period basic is fine

Thanks for that dannymack, i take it you have never had a problem with any care homes or schools wanting more then the basic one done.

Daz they won't ask you for one if you only do the outside. We've been cleaning ours for many years without a crb but when new managers start they want them which is right really

I've done a complete U turn. They're great, they ensure the customer piece of mind. My only fear now is they could be abused. i.e someone using someone elses certificate so i'd say wearing photo ID when on site should be compulsory too. You can't just have anyone walking round cleaning windows.

I would agree with that

+1 clean care regarding ID badge and your welcome Paul.

I just checked with them and they won't do it for those in England and Wales, Scotland is different because of the Licence requirement… ..Apparently its not an occupation that they will do a DBS check on. You can't just do one on yourself…

The company asking you for the DBS should pay for it.
If no-ones asking for it, don't worry.
I've only actually been asked a handful of times

Anybody can get a dbs.
Every occupation is covered especially as a contractor working in school or near vunerable people.
I got a enhanced dbs as it was required for a contract i have.

you can only do a basic check yourself anything more then that standard or enhanced someone else has to do this for you..

thetas what I was told two days ago. You can't do a DBS check on yourself . and window cleaners are nt a category that qualifies. . And relating to schools etc you need to be going into a specific school twice a week every week… That was what THE DBS said this week so who am I to argue.. Any criteria around checks on the old CRB checks has been superseded by the DBS system..

Go and update that government web page for them that says he's right. They don't know what they're on about.
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/236659/DBS_guide_to_eligibility_v2.pdf
Just tell them their guide to eligibility is wrong and you can correct it for them, you might even get paid for doing so ?
