Title: lost customer to blown unit
Post by: david mark on March 04, 2013, 09:23:29 pm: As above had this customer around five years she has stoped service as she has issues with seals failing on her double glazing in one instance on a new window and needs to eliminate all posible causes she has a second property and has stoped service on that one she seems to think that the pure water has damage the seals real
concerned about this as she has reccomended me to many of my current customers and I do not want to get blamed for failed seals. Any help please thanks

Post by: dave0123 on March 04, 2013, 09:27:52 pm: they go like this after time.. however i do think WFP starts the process myself... for example my own windows are 20 years old before wfp they where fine no blown units.. now there is 3 usually ones facing the sun. in my own opnion i think they have obviously been like this for a while but now wfp has started to allow the condensation in.

still not your fault as the windows do this naturally in the end, if the window is new.. then theres a fault with the window.. ive had mine replaced the ones that have blown now problems now.

it's just coincidence and as the problem lies with a new window, then I would suggest that the seals are to blame not you.

Post by: landy2 on March 05, 2013, 05:10:05 pm: i think it is more down to the very cold weather we have had over last couple of years , like it has been said it rains on the windows all the time . i clean a house used wfp on it twice she asked if i could use ladders as windows have blown so used ladders for ages on it and they have got worse so wfp is not to blame , maybe like everything else in life things are not made to last like they used to be everyone cutting corners to keep prices down . ???

Post by: keyser soze on March 05, 2013, 06:38:15 pm: pressing to hard guys doesnt help . it puts strain on the sealed units causing a breach once that happens there is no stopping water ingress.

when the rubber gaskets that you see around the glass loose there suppleness they go hard,this allows water to run down between the glass and the gasket......but this water should escape from the bottom of the frame through drainage holes,these can either be on the front of the frame,lets say above the sill or sometimes in the bottom of the frame and will run out on to the sill
on opening windows if you open one and look up you should see these drainage holes

One way of knowing that the gaskets have failed is the tell tale signs of black run marks on the main frame were the opening window will close against,you can also test this by spraying water on the opening window(when open) and watch the water escape from the drainage holes

When the hermetic seal has failed then water,be it rain,condensation or WFP water will evaporate through the seal and into the two panes of glass

Pleasure - if there is something not on there then it isn't worth knowing.

If wfp was the cause of this then why doesn't it effect all windows rather than predominately south facing ones?
