not for me, sundays are a day for my partner and daughter!

That makes it sound like people like me work 6 days a week. I don't. Not only do I canvass on a Sunday if I need too, I also collect on a Sunday if needed. My custies know this and I've had no complaints yet.

No absolutely not,
If I answered a door to a canvasser on a Sunday I'd be even more furious about it than I would normally - If I need a trade or service for whatever reason I look one up and call them.
Just because most shops are open Sundays now and fewer people go to church, it does'nt make Sundays any less sacred and special to people and their families.
Knocking someones door to ask if they would like a window cleaner looks a bit desperate and definately shows no respect to someones privacy.
We all have busy enough lives and work long enough hours (as if working a Saturday for some was'nt bad enough ) without being hassled by some weirdo on a Sunday !

I've had that reaction a few times in my time in this game. I just knocked on the next door, and then the next door. I never think everyone thinks like I do. I wouldn't have a window cleaner, I'd clean my own, but if someone thinks I'm desperate, that's up to them. I just knock their neighbours door and forget the person who was so easily upset ;D
It's a mistake to think that everyone thinks like I do.
You also point out that not so many people go to chrch and shops are open. When I lived in UK, shops were closed Sundays and it was a special day of rest. Your greedy government and money grabbing bankers have taken what's left of your "day of rest" and made it a 7 day week.
The least of peoples worries are about if a window cleaner knocks their door on a Sunday mate. Mind you, that's a really good excuse for those who can't take rejection ;) ere's another reason not to knock. People are eating their evening meal between 5 and 6.30, others are just sitting down to watch the evening news, so better not knock any day at those times. That's the last thing I'd want. After 6.45 then it's a bit late to knock and best go home.
In fact, the safest time to knock is just after 9.00 am just after the kids have left the house and the wives have got the washing in the machine, but stop knocking after 9.30 am because they're watching Daytime TV and I'd hate to interupt that!!! ;D
P.S. can anyone else think of really good reasons not to knock doors?

Just my opinion Crispy, thats what was asked for.
Not everyone thinks like me or you.
You are right, its a money orientated and greedy society we now live in, but each one of us is ultimately to blame for that. I choose not to go to shopping centers as a past time on a Sunday for those very reasons, someone knocking my door on a Sunday to sell me something is only bringing that ugly capitalist sentiment with them and as such will be told to f**k off.
Its a mistake to think you can knock on my door on a Sunday ;) :D

If you are serious about building a business then you need to exploit every opportunity. Sunday is the best day of the week to canvass, you are much more likely to find people in.
As to the reception, there are a few (and luckily a very few) rude and ignorant people who will greet you with a mouthful of foul abuse and of course you will meet examples of these in all walks of life, even window cleaners! For every one of them there are perhaps 500 polite and friendly ones who can easily be made to see that you are not a 'wierdo', simply an honest tradesman putting in the effort to establish and develop your business in order to earn an honest living. The vast majority will be 'No, thank you's' but if you are polite in your approach they will respond the same way.

as self employed your lucky to be able to think like, that what about the thousands for who sunday is just another working day??? lol wtf are you anyroad to say you'll treat someone like that for knocking your door

yep its the best time to do it and they are in so gets good results. between 10 and 2 is best.

Oh chill out, I don't think I am rude or ignorant. It was a mere exaggeration that I would tell someone to f off, just to get my point across and show my displeasure to other forum members that I would not like to be "exploited" on a Sunday, just because there happens to be a good chance I'll be in. There is a good reason I am in, that's because I am not working or out shopping but relaxing having family time and leaving everything else at my door when I close it until Monday. I think its intrusive and inconsiderate not to respect that. There is plenty of "honest tradesmen" out there who can respect that (including myself), and there is another 6 full days in the week if you really feel it necessary to bother people :D

True, and that's why I chose to be self employed and take the associated risks that go with it.
Thousands do work a Sunday in shops, pubs, restaurants, hospitals , airports, power stations etc. you name it,
what does that have to do with knocking on someones door that you don't know on a Sunday (traditionally and culturally a day of rest and family orientation within this country ) to push your business for your financial gain ? Who do you think you are ? lol ;)

As long as your not knocking between 12-2 which is when most people are having Sunday lunch I can't see a problem ....

All that day of rest, Sabbath, Sunday lunch stuff is old fashioned.
Lots of people have to work Sundays, these days and The Love Boat isn't on anymore, so why shouldn't you.

I have just got in And have had a great evening's canvassing today 4-7. 17 new customers between 2 of us on a 3 hour knock. All 4 weekly mainly £10 fronts to be done next saturday.
Sundays are great the proof is in the pudding.

That would make two of us feel the force of the law but more serious in your case ;)
