I cleaned glass with a tds over 10 and have heard so many on this forum say its works fine. Well, done 2 internal cleans to days on houses I cleaned last week, with a TDS 13 which only picket over the week end. From outside I could could not see any spotting but from the inside its was just not acceptable. So to the ones saying it does a good job I would say take a look from the inside it might not achieve the standards you think you are getting, as your customer might just be too polite to say anything. ??? ???

Hi Slumpy
Has it rained during the week since the day you cleaned them?
I love it when I get to do the insides - helps you see what kind of job you are doing ;D

Mines been at 13 for weeks, and I do regular insides and they have been fine.

Might not have been the TDS. >:(

Why not just clean with 000 ???
Not difficult or expensive to acheive - lets be honest our overheads are not huge in this business.
Maybe Im old fashioned but if I sell my service on using pure water and I charge for it then the least I can do is use pure water.
Also eliminates any doubts if u have any complaints that it may be the water.

Because it is not necessary to get perfect results. If I changed my resin as soon as it reached 001 then it would cost me a lot more.
Besides selling you business as pure water Window cleaning is only 000 to parts per million, so if you measured your water with a meter that measured parts per billion, then the chances are it would not be pure, so are you really cleaning with pure water at 000 parts per million if you want to get funny about it?
-
Don't think you can get parts per billion tds meters I have tried and could not find any on the internet.

Hi
Did anyone ever do the experiment that Lee (Window cleaning magazine) was on about?
Where you mix the pure water with tap to get the TDS as high as possible and check the results.
I did my windows with tap water 80 - 90 TDS and there were a few spots - mostly cos I was rushing to see just what I could get away with and TBH they looked pretty good.

Last week my water was at 027 in my ibc
Had 400L of that instead of dumping it I changed
The resin and topped it up to 1000L
And it came out at 009
I'm happy cleaning with that and donea lot of
Insides this week and its been spot on!
Saying that I was cleaning at 027 last week before I
Noticed and that was fine to !!

Not if you use two resin containers.
Firstly, it would save you money as you'd get 100% out of all your resin.
Secondly, once you've made that saving, five minutes thought will tell you that you don't save a single penny from then on by letting TDS rise a single point

Perfect Windows Prob me being dumb but how having 2 containers would you get you 100% By the way when my tds gets to 001 i change resin

im normally on 003, ive never cleaned higher then 0.10,however those spots you saw might not have been the tds to blame it could have been anything , rincing possibly also some windows with old rubbers around the glass might leak some times they never come up perfect

Not dumb at all, but you will need to concentrate.
Let's say water is coming out of your RO at 20ppm.
If you have one container and you work to a max of, say 5ppm, then as soon as it gets to 5ppm, you change the contents.
If you have two then you have RO then container 1 and container 2. As soon as water comes out at 5ppm you move container 2 into position 1, put fresh resin into the old container 1 and put it in position 2. The batch of resin now in the new container 1 is still useful rather than being in the bin, as it's bringing the water down from 20 to 5, thus extending the life of the fresh resin in container 2. It carries on doing useful work up to the point where it's going into container 1 at 20ppm and coming out the same.
Thus, you're getting much more life out of your resin. There's an initial cost, but from that point on it's saving you cash.
Once it's running, as you're getting full use out of the resin, it doesn't save a single penny letting the output go up before swapping over the resin.
Hope that clarifies...

i see it all the time..... wfp is not perfect.(my thoughts)

You can clean and get a perfect finish at 13 you just need to rinse well.
We change at 5 cause otherwise you waste water rinsing too long and it becomes a false economy

I am sure its TDs as I use a lot of water on the glass and the house is 1 year old. Also its has a pattern of spots from the fan jets.I never use water over 10 tds but some times it just goes up very quickly in my static system. I test the TDS when I started filling the tanks and it was 2 by the afternoon it was 15 going into the tanks. Two windows are under roof so it must be the water.

it wouldnt cost you a lot more at all as soon as resin starts to go over 001 it rises sharpish your saving very little but risking a lot more if you want to be funny about it! this is true if you think about it (please don't shout at me) :)
Parts per billion is overkill and god knows what that does to your hands

It doesnt rise sharpish! I've had the same resin for 20 months and I have not changed it. It is bringing the water down to 009, if I changed it everytime it started producing at 001, I would have spent a lot more money when there isn't a need too.

Sorry Ian, I didn't mean to come across as being rude, I was typing in a rush. :)

Not if you had two resin vessels.

I now do this rather than investing in new Merlin membranes. They need replacing but with a second di vessel I am getting loads more life out of resin.

I have the small resin container and fill 250ltr container, the tds is 000, I then change it. I will not fill up another 250ltrs as it would shoot up.
I never clean with tds over 001
