Has anyone any experience of that Bissell machine that’s advertised
On TV ?
The advertisement sure looks impressive.
I wonder if the average householder will `cotton on`to the idea that
Outright purchase will be more advantageous than hiring the Rug Doctor
From Tesco 3 or 4 times per year ?
Is this another `nail in coffin`of us so called professionals, giving rise to
Their being less work around still.
Or is it a case of myself getting it all wrong again like I invaribly do on
Many an occasion. ??? :-[ :-\
Thanks in advance to all comments and opinions sent in.

Hi
No.
They will use is, end up needing water wings to swim across sthe carpet and need a pro to sort out the mess they made.
Went to one the other day and he had spent £30 on Doktor Power Carpet cleaning foam, looked like someone had bleached his carpet, use some spotter on other stains and they were out, why can't I buy that he asked, my reply...because it works!

Think positively.... If someone's buying a Bissel, they realise they need to clean their carpets... They will, sooner or later, realise they need a professional carpet cleaner to finish the job off.... ;)
I would say that most of my customers have tried to do their own first, then they get a muppet in to clean their carpets, then eventually they come to me ;D

thought you said ???
they get a muppet in .....................................
and then they get you................
;D ;D

They're certainly selling in their thousands and if you read reviews they are very popular with purchasers, BUT, there is a very high percentage of the public who never get their carpets cleaned or always try to do it themselves.
These are NOT YOUR POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS and never will be, so just forget about them. Even in a shrinking market there is still a huge pool of potential customers for your services.
Concentrate on telling THEM what you can do for them, offer them VALUE FOR MONEY and encourage them to recommend you.

Your probably right there Colin. The advertisment shows the
Lady of the house with plenty of room to work in and around
And a light `not at all soiled`domestic living room carpet.Cream
Coloured at that.I assume that the Bissell is about the same as
The Rug Doctor ? ??? ???
Lewis Doubtfire.
P.S.
I just wonder if we`ll ever see the day when there will be a D.IY.
Version of the Host system for hire in the local supermarkets ?
It can been done.Still I take that back, because there is of course,
`The Shake and Vac`which is also televised.
Hmmmm,this might get some replies.Any takers ?

Shake and vac is the most detrimental thing you can do to a carpet. Its basically fine sand and I have seen carpets absolutely ruined with the stuff.
I remember my Mam saying to me after she had seen the advert for Vanish wipes on tv, "you'll have to find something else to do now as everyone will be using these now".
The positive side to these machines is that it gives people the idea that things can be cleaned. For everyone who uses it corectly there'll be four or five who will use too much shampoo and end up up with rapid re-soiling. and eventually ring a carpet cleaner to sort it out.

This statement is of course incorrect as the old shake & vac and host /envirodri are completely different.
One is a fine powder used for deodourizing and then vacc'd up whereas the host/envirodri are microsponges with a cleaning agent, brushed in to encapsulte the dirt and then vacc'd up. Both the host & envirodri are complete systems with gum removers, spot removers and brushes for different carpet types.
but you already knew that and are just fishing for a bite ;)

With reference to the Host system being offered to DIY' ers..............
I actually did that about 40 years ago and also hired out a version of the Numatic machines about 30 years ago. I'd actually forgotten about that part of my past.
When the little Sebo appeared I bought one to evaluate but it was no where near the performance of the Host so I never took it any further.
The little Numatic actually got surprisingly good results when using a particular chemical suplied with the machines.
I never found the origins of that chemical which came in 20 litre tubs and was blue with a very pleasant odour.
