Title: Reel with self layering mechanism?
Post by: Nathanael Jones on July 14, 2011, 10:00:02 pm
Is there any reel available that is suitable for WFP (eg. NOT hozelock) that will take 100mtrs of minibore & that has a self layering mechanism built in? I'm about to change my reel & since i expect any reel to last a few years, this will be my last chance for a while to get something decent!

I can't see anything on there with self layering mechanism - that wasted 10 minutes of my life.  ;D ;D ;D

Most auto retract reels come from USA 15m .HozeLock do the larger self layering. There was one that was waterpowered.
You may not get much success with 100m one.

I can only find garden reels with self layering,.. the hozelock ones are too small and the Suncast ones aren't available in Europe! I've done a lot of searching on the net & found nothing so far. :(

100m should fit onto the big self layering Hozelock if you go down a size/diameter with your hose but you will have to adapt the fittings. ie 6/7 or 8mm hose.

self layering and electric would be fantastic.
Suggested this to Ionics but they didnt seem to be too interested in it.
An automatic hosereel would save so much energy!!

The hozelock one doesn't look up to the job though to be honest,.. and electric without self layering is a waste of time as it'll all get bunched up on the reel & end up jamming. I wonder if getting one built is the only way?  :'(

would also need a pressure switch for when the hose gets snagged on car tyres etc. Anyone know any engineers that would build one?

It's not electric but fishing reels can be bought with a level wind; can't see why some clever sod couldn't come up with something similar :)

Or a simple bypass.
